Grease from from front cv joint

And I've already resided myself to failing lol! Just had a look this morning and grease flicked in the front drivers wheel arch.

Guessing cv joint gator.

Next question what parts do I need? Numbers and sources if possible?

And is there a how to? I have access to Elsa so will have a look there also.

Is this too much to take on?

Can't help you with part numbers etc but Ive done plenty of cv gators,

Remove the drive shaft nut in the centre of the hub and give it a tap with a punch and hammer so it's loose in the hub.

Remove the bottom ball joint nut or pinch bolt that holds the hub and wish bone together then knock the wish bone ball joint out of the bottom of the hub.

Then pull the drive shaft out of the hub and pull it to the side, you may have to have a little wrestle with the hub to pull one way as you pull/knock the shaft out completely.

Cut the old gator off

I have this cone thing ( it's ment for this job) that you grease up and put it over the cv joint then get your new gator and turn it inside out and put the wider end on the cone first and push it over the cone. The cone basically lifts the gator over the cv joint.

Position the gator how it's ment to go but before you put the clips in pack it with grease, clip the gator up and just put it all back together and give it a wipe.

Also you can remove the drive shaft completely and you won't have to mess around with the gearbox oil pouring out but I find I only have to pull it out if there is drop links and roll bars blocking everything up. Never done my mk5 gators but this way will work fine I'm sure.

The jobs isn't hard if you've got the tools! However,they can be be very hard without those tools!

Part numbers for outer CV. Bootie kit as that's the most common to fail 1k0 498 203 A - £ 23:68 full retail inc vat

When you strip the joint there's a beveled washer - take note what way the bevel faces!

No where near as hard as the rear wheel bearing you done!

Need box type manual or auto -  if manual 5 or 6 speed year of vehicle and engine code.

The above is the most commonly fitted one.

Just mark the ball joint position before you remove the three bolts if you don't want a wheel alignment bill!

Item 22 is the kit - same part number as previously quoted assuming it's outboard joint

Save the hassle and leave the ball joint on the wishbone just remove the ball joint nut or pinch bolt from the bottom of the hub  ( don't know which for the mk5 never payed any attention).

Did mine over the weekend was so simple and quick.

1, remover centre cap and losen hub nut.
2, jack up and wheel off.
3, mark where ur ball joint sits, I used a paint pen. Remove 3 nuts.
4, push out cv joint out of hub.
5, cut off old boot
6, I used the kit below, comes with instructions and so simple.
7, put cv joint back in hub
8 reattach ball joint with ur witness marks.
9, wheel on
10 hub nut and tighten.

took around 1hr and cost was price of the kit.
