Escort Cosworth.........How much? seriously!!!!!!!!!!
« on: May 17, 2014, 08:36:17 am »
My all time favorite car but seriously are they taking the p*ss? Seems people are trying their luck at any price these days with anything that is RS badged, some crazy prices around but doesn't look like these are actually selling. This car in particular comes up as being stolen at some point too if you google the reg plate. Think there's about 1/2 a dozen Escort Cossies on sale at the the moment £30k and above and I saw an Sierra RS500 for £70k not that long ago.

Not only restricted to RS either all "classics" seem to be going loopy recently, surely the ar*e must fall out of this market before long?

Theyre crazy prices! I remember walking into A ford dealer in 1998 and seeing a new one for 21k!

My old boss in 2001 had one for 90 mins, he launched it over a hump back bridge and ripped the engine out!

I think all classics are insanely priced now, porsche 911's from the 80s which used to go for 18k in 2003 are now 40-50  :surprised:

The Classic car market went mad before and then crashed , hasn't got back to its peak yet , but likely to get a correction soon . We sold our family Willys Jeep recently at double what we paid for it .

A Cossie that has never been stolen would be truly unique.

Shadow blue DSG 5 door with leather, sunroof, 18" Monzas, MFSW.

A mate and I had a Mk1 Escort Mexico Rep (based on 1300e) about 7yrs ago, we sold it for about £650, this was taxed and tested and running. The Mk1 they did on wheeler dealers last year was in worse nick and he paid about £6k IIRC.

Anyone who bought a Cossie at the height of the insurance madness in the 90's and kept it would be laughing now, I can remember 3-4yr old Sapphire's going for £4-5k and escort's for about £9k only a couple of years old.

Given they're selling you could argue its a fair price. Look at mk1/2 Golfs, stupid prices when you consider its a 20 year old family hatch.

Theres a fee stupid ones out there, but the RS500 did sell to a collector for £63k.

And only Mk7 Gti power, admittedly way before cars got phat with crumple zones airbags and safety cells, would be surprised if that RS500 weighs 1100kg.

The one I drove back in the day had ridiculous turbo lag, like counting to six before anything happened....good fun in the right gear though

Gorgeous car, truly stunning!!

I'd have happily handed out my internal organs for one of these back in the day.

Hard to value these cars its a old saying but "they are only worth what someone is prepared to pay for them" I think these dealers know that they have to sit on these cars for a long time before they get any interest or they are selling on a commission basis. That red car if you believe what you read on other forums has a bit of a chequered history, having been stolen once.

Here's a couple of good websites for you guys who like their older cars  www.4starclassics.com   and    www.kgfclassiccars.co.uk

My escort was no where near these prices, but I can't help wondering when it is eventually finished what it will actually owe me?? :scared: At least its a joint project with a mate of mine so we are sharing the many bills!!

Trouble is us older guys who can't except the passage of time still love these cars but can't or won't except that these cars are nearly 20 years old now and still hanker after cars of their youth.

Couple of current pics.....
