Please can anyone help me decide if by replacing my mk5 R32 engine with a edition 30 engine, will it be a better allrounder? As we know, the R32 are slow, but have the 4 wheel drive system, the edition 30 engine is much more disireable

is that getting a different engine, maybe going the route of the S3 instead, it'd make more sense

....Sorry but either this just isn't making sense or I'm being thick (though my excuse is that it's 2:00am):

The Mk5 R32 will have all sorts of transmission and other differences from the Ed30 which involve more than just an engine change.

It may have different transmissions - but they will all be interchangable due to the standardised engine block mounting positions etc.

Or are you thinking of hooking an Ed30 engine to drive '4WD'?

No, he wants to change the VR6 engine in an R32 to a 4pot turbo - but as others have suggested, the S3 mota would be a better option than an Ed30 lump.

i thought that haldex controller could allow you to bias most of the power to the rear wheels, if thats the case, i think it might be better in corners full stopwet or dry, ed 30 in a straight line though

Nope - more Haldex BS.  The race controller AT best only alows a maximum bias of 50:50 distribution.  NO front engined Haldex can EVER put more than 50% of the drive to the rear axle!

Personally i think the idea of swapping engines will just be a waste of time, like many others have said there will be lots of issues which will all require cash so you will be better off putting the money towards either a charger or turbo. Then when it comes to selling it that will be a big ballache.

We have built and look after a mk4 r32 running a huge turbo which is only currently 450hp and its awesome  :driver:. This winter its going for a complete rebuild and setup to produce around the 600hp and its going to be imense  :jumping:.

Personally i prefere turbo over charger but it all depends on what you want out of your car.
