Rev Hand Jumping?
« on: May 19, 2014, 06:50:53 pm »
Hi Guys,

Driving at 70-80kmph, the rev hand is around 2000rpm, without accelerating, the rev hand rises up(not much) and drops back down to 2000 all of a sudden,  then it continues to do this,

It's at the VW Dealer at the moment, mechanic said the pistons on the left caliper were sticking, he fixed that, and said it seems to be driving fine, He is having another look at it tomorrow to see can he notice the rev jumping,

Now what i am worried about is, could this be a sign of having a problem with the DSG Gearbox as the mechanic mentioned?

I was thinking maybe it was a cut/slit pipe somewhere, as it sounded like air being sucked in and released,

I am really hoping its not something to do with the DSG..

Any thoughts guys? Please and thanks..

If your speed isn't fluctuating, then any change in revs must be due to a gear change.  Does it happen, for example, when you start going up a hill?  The DSG will change down a gear to maintain the same road speed.  Assuming you're in a GTI, then you can tell the gear selected from the dash display, but it's not so simple in other models.
Mechatronic symptoms, as far as I'm aware, usually rear their ugly heads when manouvering at low speed.
I don't see how a sticky caliper would cause a jump in revs.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

Shadow blue DSG 5 door with leather, sunroof, 18" Monzas, MFSW.
Full list of mods:  Seat inserts and a VW bottle opener.  Each worth 20bhp.

Yea its an 07 GTI,

Im not too sure about going up hill, but yes i think its mostly heard in the low gears, for example, after exiting a roundabout, as i pick up speed, that is when i can hear it the most,

What do you think would be the next step for something like this?

Did VW recall the Mechatronic Unit?

Thanks again,
