England's World Cup chances?
« on: May 20, 2014, 01:17:54 pm »
So what do you reckon?

Personally I'd see quarter finals as a huge achievement but just hope our Roy gives the youth a go and they get some valuable tournament experience. I like the fact that now the media and the rest of the nation seem to have lowered the expectations, makes following England more enjoyable I think.

Play with no fear, no huge expectations and I think we could well be the surprise package......

Usual media hype building up the team before the competition starts, putting pressure on them and quoting things like "unleash the young lions" then when we fail the papers will crucify the squad and this time the headlines will probably read "Lambs to the slaughter"

In my heart i'd absolutely love this potentially young team to go to Brazil and play with the passion and flair that they are capable of and for that reason i'm not just going to just dismiss their chances before its even started. However, my head is telling me something different.

So F**k it, i'm going with my heart.

COME ON ENGLAND  :congrats: :congrats:

I really hope Hodgson is forward thinking enough to see past this world cup and into the future. Dragging the old school out time and time again to see them collecting their pension and playing for the money is just not on really, and the youth need to be given more of a chance. Still, he's made a start with Ashley Cole, telling him he wasn't going. I like the way it panned out where Hodgson says "Sorry Ashley, but you don't figure in my plans for the England squad.", and Ashley announces his international retirement the next day. How can you retire from a position you don't hold?  :rolleye:

So, better to field a squad in the making and get some sharp football played, than field the old timers and hope they can manage to make it past the group stages without inflaming their arthritis.

I reckon a young squad will have a good chance of playing well and upsetting a few teams, but will fall at the fence when the real questions are asked. Through the group stages okay, and then go out in the second round.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

We have a sh*t team nowadays so we will be home as soon as the group stages are done, can't see us winning a single game, ashamed to say. Well, that's what I'm putting my hard earned on anyway.

I think QF would be acceptable, the younger players need to be given the experience as well.  It's over so quickly with just 3 games to play and some of the games in previous tournaments have been quite boring at times.

Last decent looking team England had was Euro 2004 imo.

It will be interesting to see how they manage some of the civil unrest that has been reported by the media.

I think getting out of the group will be a huge achievement - but saying that if Roy lets Gerrard boss his favourite 'Liverpool' position with all the youngsters around him I think the team will surprise quite a few people  :innocent:

England WC will depend on if Rooney turns up!

If Rooney has a bad tournament as previous, then bet your bottom dollar England is out before they've kicked a ball.

Does anyone else rate Rooney? Yes he's good but I don't think he's anywhere near as good as people hype on over him also why is welbeck going haha.

Lots of negatives on here about England but if football was that predicable none of us here would be interested in it, end of the day someone has to win it and you just never know. I'm going to guess Semi finals ha

Getting out of the group will be a decent return. Just hope we play with a bit of flair.   :drinking:

Seriously can't see us getting out the groups, however if we play fearlessly and with plenty of passion I think the young guns can do us well, would love a good World Cup run
