Intake whistle
« on: May 20, 2014, 02:35:01 pm »
I drive a 2007 Leon FR with 2.0 tfsi with dsg.

I fitted a BSH True seal intake and now I have an annoying whistle when on full load between 2500-5000 RPM.

Anyone had this whistle with an aftermarket filter, and how can I remove it?

On the seat forum someone suggested that its the stock diverted valve as it slightly releases boost and it gets heard because of the open cone filter.

He changed to a classic dump valve, removed the stock electric diverter valve and the whistle has gone.

I don't like dump valves so was hoping someone has solved this without fitting one.

Hi mate

Pritty much all aftermarket open filter intakes makes the sucking/whistling noise mate.
To be honest there's nothing you can about it unless you go back to oem with panel filter or try an enclosed canister intake to minimise intake noise.

I dont think its the same noise you are referring.

The sucking noise on low revs that's like Darth Vader is something that I dont mind.

I get a ridiculous whistle noise which literately sound like some kid with a whistle is stuck under the bonnet :)

I know what whistle you mean, my MK6 did it with the EVOMS intake, its more like a high pitch whine than whistle. Its classed as Turbo whine / whistle even though its not always from the turbo.

Many people say it how the air filtered / forced down the intake / what pressure its going in at. As soon as i changed to a different aftermarket intake whistle had gone.

The only other thing that cause it is loose joining, have you trebles checked all joining parts are ultra tight and not leaking air.

I'd check the DV and replace with a rev G, £33 from TPS.
double check all of the jubilee clips, might even be worth closely examining the intakes silicone hoses for tears ?

Thanks for the info guys.
I checked and retightened everything. Everything was fine.
Will try and remove the DV to inspect it this weekend.

The noise is still there even when I changed the open cone filter that came with the kit.

I fitted a enclosed carbon bmc box, and the whistle is even louder.

I had the same on my FR with the BSH kit - you won't get rid of it until you change your intake.

I made my own intake with bigger diameter pipework and the noise is non-existent

Damn it. And I really like the look of it. Also it gave me a decent power gain.
I guess I might consider selling it in near future.
