Battery Drain from RNS510?
« on: May 26, 2014, 12:24:19 pm »
I think my RNS510 has decided to drain the battery, I have just bought the car but has been fine for the last few days.

I came to start the car today and it just clicked a lot.

Its running what looks like a version B, but is version C on VCDS and the gateway is version L. I thought this combination was ok? Occasionally when its off you can hear it playing music still or the cd tray still trying to read something. If I removed the fuse would it solve the problem in the interim?

Do you think I need a newer gateway? If so, do you have one in stock?

I've pm'd Eddie in the mean time, but thought I would ask others too!

I could really do with sorting this for tomorrow, so I can definitely get to work!

Thanks
Leon

If it's a version B on the label then it's had a firmware upgrade if VCDS reports it as a C.

Short term fix, charge the battery.

Thanks bud.

Had it on trickle charge and it seemed ok.

Bump started ok too. Eddie seems to think it's not to do with the rns as the hardware is ok. But I don't know!

Thanks for your pm bud.

I helped a lad take an RNS out of his car a few weeks back. When we pulled it out the wiring was all cut and twisted/taped together, some scotchlocs, some choc block connectors, and all sorts of mess. If someone like the guy who did that has fitted yours then any wiring faults are possible if they've just picked up live wires from anywhere.

Thanks. I'll pull it out this week and have a look. What should be there? Adapter, dual antenna for radio, aux connector and GPS antenna?

Quadloc connector, blue Fakra connector for GPS antenna, white or cream twin fakra connector for aerials (with or without an adaptor). If the Aux is factory fit then it will be connected into the Quadloc connection plug.

Your L gateway is fine

If the wiring behind the radio has been messed with or if the firmware on the RNS has been corrupted.

There are other things that could stop it shutting down

Genuine VCDS VAG-COM HEX-USB + Genuine Vag Commander + Genuine VAG Tacho + Genuine VAG CAN PRO  + RNS Manager for Video in Motion and New Pin Code for RNS510

Cluster and Key coding
