i didnt realise this but you can view the whole forum logged in or not??

i thought areas like for sale and members rides would be only for members signed up and logged in to view.

I think its a bad idea full stop. What is there to say someone with a high post count would not cheat and lie, they could just be very good at it and never get caught.
There is no evidence that a member off here sneaked in or even a lurker seizing a opportunity did it. There has never been a incident like this since we came about. All we have is a man from the breakers  yard making a statement.
Call me stupid but i  would take the word of a member from here long before a man from a breakers who i havn't even said hello too.

Its just life i am afraid guys and the forum tootles along quite nicely without a private section for those who talk a lot.  :happy2:

In my opinion of course.  :popcornsoda:

I agree with the principles of this totally. I'm not to worried about the seats, what I would be more interested in doing is keeping vee double u uk out of the members ride! Lol

although an over 18's adult section would be quite cool

not talking rancid porn, but some of the riskier topics/pictures etc could always collect in an area like that?

VZi has the same system, anything a bit 'ya kno' gets tucked in there, only posters of 100 or more can get in

I agree an extra protected area would be useful for some things but if anyone wanted to, they could (via the courts) force SteveP to reveal all hidden info, so you'd still have to be careful about what you post.

Some of the areas can't be viewed when not logged in, which is fine for me.

Agree with the above comments that you could vet everyone into the 'inner sanctum' but still have a thief get through. Using a post limit isn't a silly idea as 200 posts is achievable if you post once in a while. But you have to address why you would want to do this and what it would achieve.

TBH I'd go for the 'PM me for details', baring in mind that DaveB didn't have even 100 posts so could easily be a scammer trying to build up some 'rep', in which case loads of people could have been duped.

As with everything in life, there's a certain element of risk that will always remain no matter how sensible you are.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Ok, a couple of points, a few of the sections of the site are not visible unless your registered (but as registration is very easy that does prevent people from joining just to check).

I agree with the words of VC and Stealth, if you have something that you don't want in the public domain don't post it in a forum. Simples

The last thing I want to do is create a multi tier site that will result in a "them" and "us" split.

As you were  :happy2:

....

Great discussion :drinking: :grouphug:

There really isn't a perfect solution but I think VC's PM suggestion is the best if info needs to be networked privately.

That military guy which QD posted a pic of looks uncommonly like Hedge!

i think this has fail written all over it tbh

i get what youre saying, and ideally would be great  :happy2:

however, what of regular readers but infrequent posters? would limit their access but they would be no less a member?

would it not also create a core of 'inner members' posting potentially valuable info that people would miss if they dont get access? even if you duplicate it around the forums its a bit ott

i think the answer is simple.

if you are holding a hot potato then make a shout and then take it to private messages to spread the word

eg

if i knew of some recaro seats i could post about it, then tell people further info if they pm me

agreed.
