R20 with R36 engine

I know you guys well most of you are over the moon at the R20 and its 270bhp turbo engine.
But would you guys feel the same if vw used the passat R36 engine instead? Not as easily/cheap to tune as the 270bhp 2.0 fsi but must sound better? I know the 3.2 was heavy but would the 3.6 be much heavyer? Would it affect the golfs handling that much?

Just thought I'd ask you guys maybe its 296bhp 3.6 with its weight is no quicker than the 270bhp in the R20.

I would have bought one with out a doubt if it had the 3.6 in it, the golf R is just another 4pot, not likes there rare (all though 4wd narrows it down to that and the S3) but every other car can achieve the same power with a remap!

in the golf+mag the specs are
r20  0-62mph-in 5.7 secs in a manuel. With dsg in 5.5 secs
r32  6.5 secs
the r does the 1000metre in 25.4 secs
the r32 in 26.7 secs

The brakes are  internally vented discs all round
345mm in diameter at the front
310mm at the rear
wheels are 18" but option to upgrade to 19"

You could buy a mk5 R32 and turbo it. Ive looked at the finances and i could turbo (inc other parts and labor) my R32 for the cost of a low specced R20! You wold need to spend a lot of money on the R20 to get it to the performance of a turbo'd 32 as well!

Seening that the mk6 chassis is much like the mk5 then the longitudinally mounted R36 engine would not fit under the mk6's bonnet.

If it goes in a mk4 then i cant see why not?

Have to say though i would rather have the R36 body and a whacking great turbo

My mate just brought a mk5 r32 and we compared engines and was shocked how small the r32 engine looked from the top anyway so it must be quite a long engine as it looked narrow and my gtis is more spread out.

How much would it cost to turbo a r32 or add a supercharger? Give me a rough idea

Its funny, because when I signed my order in November 2006 for the 'next' Golf R, one of the model names that was mentioned on the order, and was being talked about was the R36!

VW should grow some big balls and 'charge the R32 from the factory, strip out the excess and add the haldex controller. 400bhp sounds good

The R36 engine is not longitudinally mounted.

^^ Correct, and it isn't a case of it physically fitting, it's due to crash regs. The R36 is a tall engine and there has to be X inches between rocker cover and bonnet. They couldn't fit it to the MK6 without a comedy bulge.
