Edition 30 front grill removal - upper and lower
« on: June 03, 2014, 11:04:43 am »
Hi all,

I am sure this has been asked before, but couldn't find what I was looking for..  there was one old post with a link but it seems to have expired..

I'm about to start a mammoth detail on my Ed30.  I was wondering if anyone knows of a good set of instructions for removing, cleaning and refitting both front grills on the MKV GTI Ed30.  I am also going to fit a new VW badge while there.

I am paranoid about breaking it, so an idiots guide with pics is ideal if such a thing exists...  if not just something to help would be appreciated.

cheers.

First remove the number plate, then the number plate facia that has 4 push in type clips, then just under these there's 2 torx screws pointing upwards, also another 2 torx screws at the top of the grille that you'll see once the bonnet is lifted, then slightly lift the front grill to pull the top mountings of the bumper and pull forward, as for the lower bottom grill, it's a swine, it's just clipped into place, so just be gentle and make sure it's not to cold, or it'll break the clips more easily, fog light surrounds are held in by one Philips self tapper which is towards The inside of the grill, and again more clips, be really gentle with these, I find them the most brittle. If you want the bumper inserts out then put your hand up the back of the bumper and push them out,  :happy2:
