Back in the day, the early nineties, I always fancied getting a sapphire cosworth and taking it the opposite way, by making it look like a 1.6L, would have been great fun in the traffic light grand prix.
thats the usual thing i used to do,i had a old  84 plate   mg metro from new, blew the engine up mg metro(stop laughing) with all the engine done with a 8 port head  on high lift cam with a dog box attached to it--it was a good in its day against xr3i--it looked like a typical metro with alloy after i debadged it all as it is a insult to mg's

Well, I'm with mortygttdi and JPC on this one.

My '08 170GT TDI has GTI side skirts and grilles and a lovely colour coded rear GTI Bumper covering my removable towbar. (All genuine VAG parts and noted by my insurers)

It also has GTD badges front and rear.....

Does that make me 'beyond the pale' or a leper?

I think not - I really think what I've done is entirely tasteful -and no different in essence to the many 'mods' - both cosmetic and performance - that lots of folks on here have carried out?

Some of you will know that I joined this happy band as a Revo'd GTI owner (Steel Grey '07 MY), but being retired, I now enjoy the lower running costs, greater economy and brisk cruising that my 'oiler' gives me!

And it certainly isn't about money in my case.....

Hey we're all chums here aren't we?  :happy2:

No I think what you and Jay have done is spot on as essentially with the modifications you have made that would make it a GTD!

i myself own a replica gti and a real 1 and i more thing iv seen 200bhp gt tdi leave a 200 bhp gti at the lights so just because you own the real deal dont make it all that
you should come huddersfield mate ill show you gti replicas that you wont be able to tell apart unless you open the bonnet.

and r32's aint all that there just hyped up drug dealer cars round here i see 17/18 year old kids rag the sh?@ out of them

Maybe they can afford them? An R32 is hardly expensive, i look young and rag the sh*t out of mine

If the real deal isnt all that then why have you gone to such lengths to copy it? Maybe you should get some imagination and do something different.

ha ha, go to bradford or hudds on an evening, get bored of seeing lambos!! lol. who needs monte carlo when you got west yorks  :signLOL: he is right in what he is saying though, these boys arent bankers :signLOL:

Back on topic. I understand the reason people make a car look like the flagship as for insurance reasons or maybe they do alot of miles but like the look of the GTI but don't badge it up like others have said and try race everything on the road

Nearly every thread you post in of late end's up the same way, so unless you have something constructive say please don't just go posting stuff to rub people up the wrong way.

sorry but for all the fake haters out there i will show you this  :booty:  And for your information im nearly 35 not into booting my car about all over the place. My mods are declared on my insurance and the biggest reason for buying a diesel was for my wife. She stopped driving cos my focusST300 was too fast for her so ended up selling it and buying my golf. I like my car to look good but not bothered about fast any more.
