Sat nav confusion!
« on: June 01, 2014, 02:56:34 pm »
I'm aware I need a canbus update as I have a 56 plate but there are so many versions of rns-510 with different price ranges!

All I want is nav and radio and if possible stream music through my phone! I also had a 6 cd changer in arm rest is  there anything I need to make that work also?

Any help greatly appreciated cheers

I would go with a revision C RNS510 as that allows you to upgrade to firmware 4120.

This firmware allows for Radio Text etc which other revisions may not allow due to firmware limitations.

You would need Bluetooth to stream but as the RNS has an SD Card capability, why not upload your music to an SD Card.

Satnav is now at V10 and you can add speed cameras to the database providing that your firmware is 3?!! And above.

As for the CD player do people still use these ?  :happy2:

RNS 310 worth a look too, bit cheaper and it doesn't usually need a canbus upgrade unlike the others. Agree with above that SD card for music works better than Bluetooth.

I wouldn't bother with built in car sat nav. I have it on my car and don't use it as you cant beat good old TomTom for accuracy and ease of updating.

A = early model
Q = Latest model

Generally the later models from C have larger hardrive, LED screens, quicker interface etc

WHat Joe said. Aim for Min of Rev C or you could go nuts out and buy the Rev Q DAB in the for sale section  :smiley:

I'm military and get sent all over country on courses and that so use my sat nav loads while I'm trying to find places at my temporary postings! I think I'm just going to go down the oem look but different software as I had a play on a mate today and much preferred the software on my oem replica I used on my 1 series coupe!
