Replacement windscreen but lose no claims, advice needed
« on: June 02, 2014, 12:35:33 pm »
I have a cracked windscreen and has gotten worse, want some advice, I spoke to my insurance, AXA, they said autoglass, 75pound excess to replace, but I will lose my no claims for this year, but will still have my remaining no claims which is around 2/3 years.  I asked if did privately, autoglass will charge around £300 pounds!   :scared: I spoke to one of my mates gave me a number of someone to call, he's charing £135 but it's not oem glass, I don't really wanna lose my no claims, but I don't really wanna pay £300 either  :signLOL: I'm a bit poorer already this month having spent money on a new key.

£135 for non oem glass from a mates mate.
£75 excess fee replacement glass autoglass but lose this year's no claim, ( Btw haven't asked about getting oem as only just found out you can)
request it)
Or £300 pound private from autoglass not going through claims,

I've read briefly some posts regarding getting oem over non oem as some don't fit correctly or have leaks etc. Need your opinion guys,
Btw sorry, typing this out on my phone

I was thinking same thing, but I only got new policy with them like a month or two ago as I used to be with admiral, don't think you can amend it like that can you?? Like call up amend policy, pay the difference for protected no claims, then make claim? Doubtful  :scared:

I think you can upgrade your policy whenever, their admin fee might be high..
still wouldn't hurt to ask them, you might not qualify for a protected policy.

Called up AXA, can't amend to add protected, only when at the start or renewing  :sad1: or new customer

I'd pay to get it fitted yourself.

I got a chip last weekend.
Gavin from Autoglass (yes really I sh*t you not) turned up to repair it
Chip turned into a crack
got new one going in on Friday @ £75. called brentacre who are my insures to verify and they said does not effect my no claims at all 100% guaranteed.

;) might be worth looking to go with them next term...

Now i don't want a new windscreen as i'm scared to death of them breaking my car or damaging it, nick had a windscreen changed and they ruined his paint and has a whistle apparently i swear he said... but gives me a chance to clean that bottom bit of the windscreen you can never normally get to.

Had mine replaced for a non OEM one. (FY i think) and its perfect. No leaks, No whistling and my wiper sensor works as it should. I think i might be one of the lucky ones though.

is it worth getting a price for a new windscreen from TPS? If you can get your mate to fit, you might get the best of both worlds - OEM glass with cheap labour costs?

just a thought.

It is supposed to be for the trade only but, they don't seem to ask you for your trade information.

My local TPS depot (Stockport) sells to retail customers and usually will throw in a bit of discount.
Going through TPS will probably be the quickest way to get hold of an OEM windscreen. Give your nearest one a call and get a price - it might not work out as dear as you think..

I take it if you have auto lights & wipers you need OEM glass?

No, you need a screen with the sensor metal mount already fixed on.

I have non OEM on my Tiguan from when I retrofitted the sensor, no problems whatsoever.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
