Modification Advice

Hi All

After spending hundreds on my focus st I promised myself that I would never modify a car again but I just can't help myself, I tried to be sensible and had a 2 litre diesel bmw but I got bored of it and now I'm begging to think that I am going to start modding the gti.

I was just wondering where people thought a good starting point would be with the gti and also what brands you would recommend for the various items?

I'm guessing it would be a sports cat/cat back system to start?

Its always the same mate i told myself that after having a highly modded mk2 rs and have now gone even more nuts on my ed30!

First mod cant go wrong with an exhaust look at bcs or my favourite eurojet.. Depending on what your after the eurojet is loud btw

Intake wise fit an evoms itg or revo all depends what your looking to spend

Stage 1 map. Best bang for buck. (240bhp)

Loads of tuners to chose from. Do a search on here for options.

If you need more power after stage 1, stage 2 requires a sports cat. (260bhp)

If stage 2 bores you, stage 2+ can be had with a HPFP and an intake. (280bhp)

Dont forget brakes, suspension and related handling mods

Stage 1 remap

Rear anti roll bar (H&R)

Lowering springs

Good alignment setup

Good tyres

That should set you up with a lovely handling mk5.

Will I be ok with just a map and a completely standard car?

Yeah.

If you go somewhere decent they will check the car over 1st.

The DV and PCV valve are both known weak points on the Gti, these should be checked and updated to VW's latest revision but your tuner. Or if you are handy with a screw driver you can do it yourself, Loads of info about these items on the forum.

If you post up your rough location members will recommend your local latest and greatest tuners

Stage 1 remap

That should set you up with a lovely handling mk5.

Front roll bars as well.. with proper coilovers. Naturally mk5 is quite neutral to oversteering with easy skids with some lift off.
Lowering springs are crap.

I highly recommend you AVOID PSI tuning. But feel free to make your own mind up

best modifications -

1. Remap
2. Big brake kit or NQSBBK
3. Uprated shocks and springs 
4. Stiffer rear ARB
4. LSD - expensive but good
 
5.) If you have Highline dash the best non performance mod you can do imo is the Polar FIS - so bloody useful its untrue

ABP Motorsport in shavington are great for alignment and mod fitting. They even do a good job of the pre-cat delete:
