Info needed for RNS 310/315 into MK5 GT TDi
« on: June 09, 2014, 12:35:52 am »
Hi guys, I'm new to VW ownership and I'm wanting the best option to get bluetooth into the car.

The car currently has an RCD 300 (I think) fitted and I'm needing bluetooth in it. I had a Parrot MKI9200 in my last car which was pretty good but I can't really find anywhere in the interior to install the screen and control buttons without it looking an absolute eyesore.

I've had a look at the RNS 310/315 which looks great as some models have bluetooth and DAB built in. My car doesn't have a mic or steering wheel buttons installed but my wife wants to use voice dialling. Does anybody know if the following mic would make voice dialling work with an RNS 310/315 which has bluetooth built in?:

Also I've ready about battery drain on earlier MK5 models. I have a 55 plate, would this be an issue with this head unit?

I would also want to use my ipod classic with it and have full control over it. Wouls I need anything else to make this work?

Sorry for all the questions guys.

Cheers

Rick

Hi Rick,

I don't have any experience of the RNS310/315 so can't really help you there. Regarding the battery drain issue it is easily rectified by swapping out the Gateway. EDDIE-NL can provide these pre-programmed so all you will need to do is unplug the old one and plug in the new one. Simple :)

Ok thanks, I'll bear that in mind.

Does anybody else have any experience of this system?

Yep got a 310 in my car, never had any battery drain problems. I'm using an old F index gateway. Even with the car parked up for over a week it was still fine. Couple others on here and another forum have found the same. Its nice as all the other new gen units (RCD 310 and RCD/ RNS 510) do drain the battery.

As for the 315 the problem with that is it won't support the instrument cluster display in a Mk5. Not sure whether it drains the battery.
