Getting the best out of standard brake set up?

After weighing up my options i'm wanting to keep the standard set up but what are my best options for the best set up?

I have read ferodo ds2500 are great for pads with the brembo discs. Also this is a noob question but can you have different pads on the fronts and the rears. Apologies for any silly questions  :laugh:

Is there any need for new calipers? I have the standard ones on now and been used for 83k miles

Absolutely yes but the higher brake torque pad must be at the front.
Without traction power is nothing!

So been pricing up. Buying the front 312mm and rear 286mm brembo discs along with brembo pads for the rears. Total of £196

Ferodo ds2500 front pads from motorsport world for £134 (£7.50) for delivery.

Does this sound ok?

If keeping the standard front calipers then you may get better brake pedal feel and more even pad wear with a caliper stiffening kit.

Look at mintex m1144 or m1155... Both better than the ds2500

Changed all my standard hoses foe Goodrich Aeroquip. Full fluid flush.
Cost for parts approx £120 when on offer at carparts4less with disc codes.

Really noticable improvemnet in pedal feel, on a setup that is standard other than red stuff pads.

Good value mod i reckon.

By the time you've spent that and got Braided hoses and dot 5.1 fluid (which you would need to get the best out of them) would you not consider upgrading to an R32/S3 set up?

By the time you've spent that and got Braided hoses and dot 5.1 fluid (which you would need to get the best out of them) would you not consider upgrading to an R32/S3 set up?


That was my thoughts a front s3 setup with even stock pads and discs would outperform the gti setup with all the fancy bits

So you are saying i only need the front s3/r32 set up and can just have the stock discs on the rear?

I see.. I was trying to find out what the standard size for rear discs some people saying. 282/286 and some 256mm. Anyone know?
