fitting rns 310
« on: June 21, 2014, 05:17:45 pm »
hi all im looking at upgrading my cd player in my 2005 gti, i assume i have the rcd300

is it a simple un plug on old unit and plug the new one in?

i assume as it is a sat nav unit i will need to mount a gps antenna somewhere?

am i right in thinking that this unit hasnt got the dreaded battery drain issue?

and lastly will my cd changer plug straight in? (as this ss the main reason i want to upgrade as my unit has some very UN-sophisticated after market ipod connector which has disabled the cd changer, the main thing that draws me to the 310 is that it has a aux input on the unit it self as this is what ill be using as my main source of music

oh and where are the maps stored? on a cd or sd card?

So it will plug straight in but yes you need a GPS antenna and you'll also want an adaptor for the radio antennas - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FAKRA-VW-RNS-RCD-510-310-315-radio-antenna-aerial-adapter-Seat-Skoda-Columbus-/261163682162

Mine has never had the battery drain issue and I haven't upgraded the Gateway. A couple of other members have found similar so we've all assumed it doesn't cause battery drain unlike the other new head units.

Not sure about the CD changer, can't see any reason why not though.

Maps are stored on CD but it will prompt you to copy to SD card which makes it quicker to load  :happy2:
