Very strange problem. Haven't heard of the battery regulator or seen the underseat amp. Didn't think VW offered a sound system with the Golf Mk5 in the UK at least.

Part of the VW soundpack I think - page 9 on the mk5 options list - www.goo.gl/UewyO.  Check for the amp + if fuse slotted #18 in the engine bay is filled.

The Battery Regulator is an interesting point - any more info on impact?

VW UK did offer the sound pack in the Mk5, rare option

Battery regulator is only found on VW cars that are Bluemotion with stop start.

Interesting.... well it is an AMP under the passenger seat so lets hope that means I get to keep my original gateway. I will not drive my car this week and see how I go at the end of the week, if it starts.

I have left it for one night and its possibly to tell that the car takes longer to start the next day compared to the same day, but maybe thats typical battery drain that occurs anyway.

The Battery Regulator I do not understand - I had been trying to code it for weeks and then gave up reinstalled my old gateway. I had no idea how to get it out of the coding, Eddie-NL, do you have any idea's why I am facing that issue?

You can't code it out as a gateway that has that as a default is for a car with Stop / Start

The other thing is that on cars with the sound system installed can prevent battery drain

I saw another golf with sound system and old gateway and that didn't drain either

Eddie-NL You are an absolute Genius! I put my old (Original) Gateway back in the car and left it for two weeks while I was on holidays. Came back and it started perfectly! No battery drain at all... your infomation was correct. In case this is to become a sticky or documented somewhere.

I have a VW MKV Golf GTI 2005/2006 edition. There is an Amp under the passenger side seat and there is no battery drain when upgrading to the RCD510. Note, I did not need to upgrade the gateway or change it, everything works perfectly with the original parts.

Thank you Eddie
