Nology Silver plugs - reported problems?

I saw in another thread Alex was going to give some feedback on the above but dont think he has?

I had an issue last week and only just got the car scanned today - just came up as random misfire so no hint it could be throttle body or PCV and car seems to be driving ok now.

Was wondering if could be due to the Nology's as if they run colder like the NGK 8's and i had been tootling round due to rush hour but then later on when trying to boot it they had got a lot of carbon deposit on and did not take kindly to the request? Not had chance to take them out and inspect them yet but will be doing so.

Anyone else swapped back to NGK 7's??

I swapped back to NGK Iridiums.

I would advise anyone running nology plugs to do the same or just put in similar OEM spec plugs. The problem stems from the fact they have no resistance, so it can play hell with the electrics, accelerating failures.

List of known issues...

Throttle Bodies dying.
Coil Packs melting/blowing up.
Radio Interference.
Intake flapper motor fault code errors

Yes... thats correct. They do work well, and I had no running problems/misfires etc. The issue has been that over time these electrical problems have come up, problems that don't always arise just after fitting.

now then, I'm running the Nology's and have had the throttle body issue, scanned at the weekend and have the intake runner fault code mmmmmmm

Think Alex should jump in and clarify the situation, i'm under the assumption the throttle bodies are not dying but VCDS has no way of telling you the spark plugs are at fault but for some reason says the TB is goosed.

Never heard of coil packs blowing up, who had this failure due to the plugs?

I was running Nology plugs and had throttle body symptons, I've swapped back to 7s now  :happy2:

Steve Jr at Statller fitted some to a few cars including mine.

Mine also ended up with several faults showing including the runner flap and throttle body. They were swapped out for Iridiums and the faults never re-occurred.  :happy2:

The best combination for lower tuned cars seems to be R8 coilpacks and OEM plugs and for stage 2+ and beyond to swap to Iridiums.  :happy2:

Steve swapped out the other customers cars he fitted Nologys with for Iridiums too.
