Tyres contaminated with bitumen.. Opinions required
« on: June 17, 2014, 05:57:32 pm »
Hey

A couple of weeks ago the misses was driving home, when she noticed that the tyres were flicking a gravel like sound. As she look at the road surface she could see Tarmac in the road and 4-5 car ahead was a lorry that hadn't closed its rear hatch, resulting in the remaining warm bitumen falling on the road. Therefore resulting in the tyres getting a good covering:

I was after some opinions from fellow car enthusiasts on here. I am in the opinion of perusing replacement tyres. They have initially mentioned 'cleaning them'

Some more photos, have removed wheels from car..

Thanks in advance and all opinions welcome

Cheers for your replys!  :drinking:

I have been awaiting to hear back from the company, they have a max 40 day response and just had a reply today 39 days after claim. I think they were hoping I would have warn through it by this time, but took them off straight away to prevent spreading to body work or incase the tyres were compromised.

There suggestion is:
"I propose that we pay for a valet on your car to remove any bitumen residue from the tyres and bodywork"

Just wanted some other opinion before I response with my thanks but no thanks, new tyres please

Just to update:

Today got my 4 x brand new eagle F1's  :jumping: not their fault but as a jest ute of goodwill

I did plan on keeping the old tyres but it was a job removing tar from the inside of the alloy let alone the tyre  :fighting:

As said above, a decent wheelspin would have shifted it. Probably happens all the time when people drive over fresh Tarmac.

It's great that you got a new set FOC though  :drinking:
