Does VCDS come up with anything? Could be wiring to the coils, or the cat on it's way out at a guess but would expect a 16804 code.

Edit: I had the same thing on an Audi and had the breather hose under the inlet manifold replaced as it was cracked so maybe worth a mention, but could be a leak somewhere in the intake or exhaust system causing it

Hi all,

My Edition 30 has a rough idle at the moment. I had a bad missfire recently and after changing plugs and coilpacks I found it to be the second injector, so had that replaced along with heaving the inlet valves de coked and cleaned (review to come) but I'm still getting this rough idle. The car won't missfire under load as it did with the broken injector.

I tried the dipstick test to see if the PCV was broken, and it made the idle worse so I know it's not that.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Did you clean your injectors?  Sounds like Carbon issue missfires again

Bloody TFSIs!!

I feel your pain matey. Mine does a little stumble (can feel it slightly through the drivers seat) as the engine is warming up, but is pretty good once warm.

Yours is really misfiring quite hard there!  :surprised: try a can of BG44k in the fuel tank to give those injectors a good clean, and try an Italian Tuneup - get on a quiet motorway and keep the revs above 3k for 15-20mins. That will get the engine hotter and help to shift carbon.

Since you've checked most of the electronics, valves and injector(s), it might be a good idea to check the air intake. VCDS should indicate errors within the intake manifold including valves/potentiometer that control the intake manifold flaps which are known to cause rough idle when not working at full potential. Also you could monitor all 4 cylinders for misfires (if memory serves, Engine> Measuring blocks 15 and 16) to see if you can isolate the problem.

Looks like it doesn't want to make it easy for you.
So if injector #2 is new but the rest are old, maybe you could try swapping the injectors and log for misfires again to see if the problem follows the injectors?

Apart from that I would also suggest to monitor/inspect the air intake. Intake manifold issues (blown gaskets, air leaks, bad valves, sticky flaps) often cause misfires. Most of them, especially sensors and valves, would show errors though AFAIK. Also monitoring the fuel trims might give you a clue about the issue.

BTW did you inspect the old spark plugs during removal?

This evening I swapped the PCV to the revision R version, it was very hopeful thinking but still the missfire remains.

I guess next thing I'll do is swap cylinder 1 and 2 coils/plugs with 3 and 4 and see if the missfire moves with them, if it doesn't I guess the inlet manifold will have to come off again and I'll need to get all four injectors test  :sad1:
Has this missfire appeared since you cleaned your inlet valves?
