Noisy tappet sound only when the engine is cold.

Hi there people, I'm a newbie to the forum.

I have a Golf Mk5 1.4 petrol (80Bhp) (BUD engine), on a 57' plate (2007) done 25k miles.

I have a noisy tappet sound only when the engine is cold or when the engine has stood for 4 hours or so. The noisy stops after the temperature needle starts to move, i.e. lasts for around 3 mins maximum. I've posted a short video of the noise at

The car has got full dealer history, regular oil changes. Oil levels are spot on as is every else about the car. The dealer looked at the car and said it's the 'characteristics' of this particular engine. I explained it never used to make this noise before the 20k mile mark, seems to have started from 20K miles onwards. I don't believe it's engine characteristics. I have a suspicion that it's something to do with the change of oil manufacturer that VW use. They now use Quantum, but used to use Castrol. Volkswagen say that the oil is up-to-specification, but I'm not so sure.

Any ideas of what this noise might be? Areas that I can check?
