Bluetooth - OEM v Parrot
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:32:48 pm »
Hi

Been thinking that sometime in the near future I might get a Bluetooth kit.

Currently have a RCD 510, MFSW and red high line

Ideally I would like a OEM set up but I'd have to find someone localish to fit or travel whereas I could probably get the parrot done local.

Has anyone got any experience with the parrot and is there any advantages of having one over the other?

Cheers

I've just fitted the OEM Bluetooth & RCD510. It's really not that difficult :happy2:

With the help of guides online and some trim tools it's pretty easy - probbaly took me a couple of hours being very careful... I considered a Parrot as I've had them before but I never liked the extra screens that you need to find a home for. With OEM it's all integrated and much neater - I don't have the MFSW or Highline so your install would be even slicker...

Thanks

Any idea what module I'd need to be compatible with the spec I mentioned above?

I've got a 7P6 035 730 P in mine - a 2014 model. Everything works fine except the Phone book - I think thats because my RCD510 is quite an early one but I am keeping an eye out for a 7P6 035 730 B to see if it's the module that is too new...

Thanks mate, in what way doesn't the phone book work? It doesn't appear in either the RCD or the highline?

It appears on the RCD - I don't have Highline - but the phone numbers are jumbled up so you can't use it. Not a problem for me as there's only a handful of numbers I'd call from the car and you can set speed dials for those. From googling I think it's an incompatability between new phones and old RCDs. As my RCD only cost me £100 and I got the bluetooth module for £50 I can't really complain too much...

Any idea how old your RCD is?

I have the RCD510DAB and everything works fine in mine, bu my friend has  just an RCD510 and heis phonebook doesnt work, and it doesnt display track names either on bluetooth.

In regards to fitting the bluetooth module, very easy, just be patient and as long as you use the correct tols anyone can do it, just google a guide its really not very hard. Just stashed mine in the centre consoel behind the rcd wrapped in a bit of foam to stop rattle, no need to buy all the stuff to fit it under the seat.

Another RCD510 DAB user with 7P6 bluetooth, i have the slightly newer version of the RCD510 which shows phone book entries correctly.

Just out of interest Liam, where are you?

Because you mentioned you want somebody to fit and knowing your location might put you in a better position to find somebody :)
