Air con issue
« on: June 26, 2014, 10:50:52 am »
Just after a bit of advice re air con.

I had it serviced and re gassed a couple of weeks ago at VW and since then, after it has been running a while it is making a whining noise. It is going back into VW next week for them to have a look at it (it only started making a noise after they had their hands on it)!

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem

Thanks

dunno if it's the same noise but from time to time on mine there is a bit of a whiring noise, not very loud but audible on idle at junctions or traffic lights. Can't recall hearing it recently though...

I had a similar problem.

Regassed (serviced) by VW in March... been running it very regularly.  Worked enough for the weather at the time, albeit with a whining noise.  When the hot weather started in anger (if you can call it that), the aircon refused to put out cold air, and there was funny gurgling noises from behind the dash and a whining.

It was just inspected by VW today, they found gas had all leaked out.  They have regassed + UV dye... asked me to drive it around and bring it back to them in a month or when ever the air con fails.  They will inspect for leaks and remedy accordingly.

The gurgling sound is to be expected with air con systems I believe, as they work by condensing a refrigerant gas which take energy (in the form of heat) out the air. As the liquid has energy transferred from the warmer air to it, it vaporises again, leaving the air cooled. The gurgling sound is simply the air con fluid being cycled round.

May be wrong, but that's the theory I worked out...

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Exact same thing has happened to myself. Be interesting to see how this turns out, as rayhoop said once it actually gets hot outside the air con decides to give up. The unit also makes excessive noise which drives me insane.

I'm intrigued too see the end result in this.

I had mine re gassed as it was blowing hot air not cold. The whining noise tends to occur when it has been running a while but when I turn the air con off and just put the fan on it stops. I shall let you know what VW say about it.

Update on the air con - went to VW today and they checked the system, no leaks or anything. The annoying thing was that the air con didn't make the whining noise today!

It all appears to be ok so maybe it's just one of those things

Sounds like they didn't put enough gas in!

Probably just regassed it again!
