Not a happy bunny...

Had my car serviced today and was informed that the inner sidewall on the passenger side front tyre had a tear that in all likelyhood would expand with time. As you can see in the pic, there is no evidence of any rim damage so it may well be a defect in the tyre.
 
I was advised that for safety reasons I should get the tyre replaced. The tyre has covered less than 2k miles.  :surprised:

I suppose I could fight with Goodyear for a replacement but that's likely to take some time and I want my car to be as safe as possible now.

Why would Goodyear offer a replacement ? Is it a defect.

Looks like a slice caused from glass or something from the pic

Does look like a slice, rather than a defect - could have been the tyre fitter and been there all along?

See if the wall looks damaged and chance your arm with Goodyear.

no way it would be sold like that, looks sliced to me, glass/nail etc etc

either that or its split from a hard impact from a curb or rock but it would have been one very noticable bang if you had

by the looks of it that it woyldnt be, but even if it were a defect tyre, it would take agessssssssssssssssssssssss to get a reply and something done..

on the mkiv forum a few members on thier have had the same problem--when you buy a replacement send that one back to good year,its worth a try to see if you get anything of them
