Opinions...

I have a 06/56 GTI, 75k, 11 months mot, full dealer history with absolutely nothing wrong with it. My question is.... Would you chop it in for Mk6 GTI?

Really depends on what you are after personally i wouldn't bother, instead spend the difference on the old girl and MOD it :)

Not for mechanical reasons. Only if you feel the mk5 is aesthetically dated.

no because imo the mk5 looks better than the mk6 and the mk6 won't age as well aesthetically as the mk5, so it's only going to be a few years before aesthetically your in a worse position than now

I was on the same boat as you. I went for MK5 because it looked nicer and sportier , and was told by the dealer than early MK6s share almost all mechanical aspects as MK5 . That's for the GTI.  So I got a MK5 with low mileage , better condition and spent money on fun stuff :)

I personally prefer the shape of the mk 5.
