aftermarket double din

Hi all managed to get my hands on a cheap double din for my mk5 golf gti so spent an hour today fitting it only problem is that I can only turn it off and on with unit it won't work with ignition does anyone know why.manythanks in advance

Think it'll be the wiring, you may have the permanent live and ignition live mixed up.

Thats the red and yellow wires swap them so their yellow to red

Looking at the wiring theres not the usual connectors on the yellow and red wires they all run through the harness

I had to order the CTSVW002 adaptor for mine. Sorted mine out. I got mine off eBay.

You need to run a switched live to the headunit.  The oem headunit uses canbus signals to turn it off and on whereas your aftermarket unit does not.  You need to run a wire from either the rear of the 12v socket or from the fusebox. If going to the fusebox use a multimeter to tell which fuse has 12v running through it ONLY when the ignition is on (£3 from eBay), you then want to use one of these (goo.gl/bFKYVy).  Then all is needed is just to connect that to the red wire at the rear of your headunit and it will turn off and on with the key.  It sounds a pain but it's really simple  :happy2:

You don't need to run wiring at all if you use a proper adaptor pin block and wire it up right ;)

But it's only 1 wire and my way costs <£5  :grin:.  If I wasn't so tight I'd probably would of bought the connector though haha.
