Would a damaged DV leave error codes?
« on: June 29, 2014, 10:12:38 pm »
I have read the great thread about DV and PCV and learned a great deal before it got my new mk5 GTI. I took the car to dealer to do inspection per my requested items.

One of them was DV and PCV. PCV was tested by them and myself ( oil stick removal method ) and seems it is working perfectly.

However I asked the dealer if they removed DV to inspect it physically, they mentioned no because there was no error codes related to it...

So my question is, could I rely on the claim that because there is no error code the DV is okay ?

I haven't owned a GTI before and car has only done 30,000 KMs ( 2008 model ) I don't feel any lag or lack of response but again I'm no expert in GTIs.

Thanks all :)

Just change it

It's £30.

Dealers don't check them. And iirc it doesn't give an error code in vcds either.

Get it changed so you know it has been done  :happy2:

Thank you .
What is the recommended revision ? Or an after market ( higher quality than OEM)?

Something that if I go with APR Stage 1 it won't torn apart or fail quickly :)

D or G revisions are fine. An aftermarket option is the GFB DV+ upgrade, search the reviews section. :)

Is rev D not using rubber anymore? I.e lasting longer and more resistant ?

Will do a search on GFB DV+

Having just through this myself here is my 2p.....

VCDS - once the problem gets bad enough it will leave a fault code under engine - Boost Control Regulation : Control Pressure Not Reached. I could also hear excess turbo whistle when driving.

Rev D or G - opinion differs but there seems to be a slight preference for G. The piston in D can leak slightly and isn't as smooth. D might last longer. Both can cope with stage 1.

I went for G at £35+VAT. FYI you'll probably need to order it in first.  As a first timer it took me about 45 mins to check my Rev B currently installed. Multiple splits so looking forward to getting the G on.

Go for G, it seals better with the rubber the D can leak from the start as it does make a good seal. Then treat it as a serviceable part and change when needed

I checked with VW and based on my VIN they confirmed I have revision G on mine from factory. Probably ask them for physical inspection when going there next.

Mate, just change it  :stupid:??

They may do a visual inspection and yes, if there was a massive tear in the diaphragm they'd see it, but it could have a smaller tear that isn't visible

I'd rather get it changed for peace of mind....

Changing the DV is a really simple job actually, save yourself some money and get the car up on axle stands and about an hours work. Plenty of good guides on the internet, search YouTube for tutorial videos so you can see the job before undertaking it.
