VW iPod interface not working
« on: June 29, 2014, 11:46:13 am »
Hi,

We have a genuine VW iPod interface in our 2006 GTI, but it doesn't work. I've taken it out of the car, but apart from a slightly broken iPod connector, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it.

It will play a song for a few seconds, but then stops and displays no CD. The head unit is the RCD500. Are they serviceable? Anyone repair them? Or shall we just replace it? Been trying to find a unit which will also add Bluetooth.

Does it have all the cables? The Apple lead on ours was a little crushed from being shut in the glovebox at some point. I'm not sure if this is why ours isn't working yet.

Ok, thanks for the offer. I think I'll leave it for now, I'm thinking we might change to the later RCD310 or 510 now. Just need to figure out what I need to install it and to add iPod and Bluetooth.

Might need a new gateway from you if we do go for a new head unit.

If your going for the full new unit as I have you will need a new CAN gateway as yours Is 2006.. Not guaranteed but worth budgeting for as your probably going to need one, that then needs fitting and coding in. Then comes the new headunit, replace RCD500 with whatever you chose, I've just got the 510 and can honestly say its a great bit of kit. Then like you I have also opted to get the MDI armrest dock from Damian name on here is demon666. Besides them, you will need a fakes antenna adapter as the FM AM antenna is slightly different to that of the RCD300/500 which you can get for around £7 on ebay. Be prepared to spend around £300 - £350 with everything included that you need.
