Amplifier choice
« on: July 03, 2014, 09:52:08 pm »
My plans are to run all my speakers from an amplifier rather than off the head unit. I'm stripping my interior to swap it so while everything is out may as well wire in an amp.

My front speakers of choice run at 80 watts RMS @ 2 ohms
My rear speakers of choice run at 70 watts RMS @ 2 ohms

I'm looking at 2 amps now, details are;

JBL GTO1004 - 4 channels capable of 150 watts RMS @ 2 ohms (100 watts @ 4 ohms)
JBL GX-A604 - 4 channels capable of 85 watts RMS @ 2 ohms (60 watts @ 4 ohms)

My main questions are;

1. Can both amps run all 4 channels at 2 ohms or does running at a lower impedance require bridging channels?
2. The GX is physically smaller, but would I be better the the larger GTO so I'm not running it at nearly full capacity all the time, or will the smaller GX be fine to run at Max rated RMS all the time?
3. Using an 8AWG gauge wiring kit will be able to handle the power demands of even the GTO amp?

Many thanks for reading!
