I love the ED30 one, why would you want it off?
Did you get that off the Manc breaker by any chance? I was going to go up to get the wheel, stick and handbrake cover off him?

I also like ED 30 one but just prefer the one i have.  :happy2:

is there anyone out there with a clue on how to separate it. The metal clasp on the outer side doesn't appear to come off and when turned inside out the gaitor disappears into nothing if that makes any sense.

The manual one may have a different type of connection but any help on either of the 2 would be good because i am completely stumped.  :sad1:

does the vertical stainless bit (with DSG written on it) at the top of the knob, not lever off?

or the black bit under the gaiter pulls/rotates off.

bring it over and I'll ruin take a look at it   :happy2:

To remove your existing gearknob and gaitor do the following:

First you get hold of the leather gaitor and pull it upwards at a slant which then uclips it from the base (ashtray surround area).

Then you lift the gaitor upwards pulling it over the gear knob, the gaitor will now be inside out.

There is a black plastic base at the bottom of the gear rod, push this upwards gently, and once free all you do is firmly pull the lever upwards, holding a solid part. This will then pull the complete unit off the metal gear rod freeing it from the car.

Now pull the plastic surround gently upwards, this will come out very easily. Turn the surround over and unplug the connector.

Replacing is the opposite but you need to unclip the 'DSG' trim on the gear knob.

When refitting use a small screw driver to push the metal rod within the gear knob head away allowing the black plastic tip on the gear leaver to come in and then when you release the metal rod it will feed into the hole in the black plastic tip allowing the button on you DSG gearknob to operate.

That's how you change the whole unit over, I'm afraid I don't know how to separate the gaitor from the knob but I hope this helps with part of your problem.

Cheers
Kenny

Tres bon Kenny!

TC, if you don't want that knob (and haven't already been asked) Can I have it??

Oh, and I'm about all day Thursday/Friday if you want those spacers. We'll sort out a brew or something.
Sideways yo!

Mike i was thinking of putting my plain gaitor back on the golf ball, and selling it on fleabay again. I paid £60 for it, which is a lot for just some red stitching.  :happy2:

Also i was thinking of popping down to Votex on Friday to get a quote for my brake kit fitting, and getting the suspension sorted.
So if your about we could meet up on the way down there.  :happy2:
