xenon headlights
« on: July 07, 2014, 12:45:52 am »
hi all apologies if this has been answered already, tried searching for it found a couple posts but need some clarification, I checked my front end today where the headlight washers would be and lifted the covers a little bit and could see the head light washers behind the covers, if I have them already installed would that mean it would be easier to fit oem xenon headlight units in? im guessing it would be? or do they normally come with headlight washers but need the correct headlight units for them to work? also what parts etc would I need to get this done..

currently have the stock normal headlights which came with the car,, one more thing does this mean I have the "winter pack" or am I thinking of something else  :stupid:  :ashamed:?

The headlight washers work when you pull the stalk for the windscreen washers every third time and only when the headlights are on. You can have headlight washers with regular halogens as well as xenons as they are part of the winter pack which include front heated seats(amongst other things I'm unsure of)
Retrofitting xenons isn't affected by whether you have washers or not although it's preferable to have the washers to help prevent glare to other road users when the lights are dirty.

Pull the stalk for a few seconds each time. Also bare in mind u wont see them pop out from inside the car but wet headlamps and lots of spray will confirm they work. I just tried mine earlier today cos it had been a while I last noticed them working. My headlight switch was in the auto position if that helps :happy2:

There's a small chance they've been coded out like mine have since I clean the car regularly and they leave a mess all over the front bumper.

There was no fuse in f36 :sad1: I put a 20a one in but still didn't work

Thinking may have been coded out as that's why there's no fuse installed?

I've got xenon's without washers and it went through the m.o.t, you don't need them.

I was told that i didnt need to buy the washers for my xenon retrofit as if the washers aren't there, they cant be tested, therefore they cant fail the MOT  :happy2:

Hi there, Im an MOT tester and Im sure at one point there was talk that all HID systems were going to require headlamp washers to pass the MOT.
However as it stands at the moment, if they are there they must work. This also applies to self levelling systems.
Hope this helps
