I need to send them an email regarding the paint warranty.

Normally first thing to do is ring your local dealer and they'll have a warranty bloke, make an appointment to see him and then take it from there.

Basically they have agreed to do my car 80% but wanted £1800 for the tailgate

Don't know his title/rank, but he was at a level to be able to negotiate. Hope this helps...
