Buying an ED30 with no DSG service history
« on: July 08, 2014, 12:49:51 pm »
I've seen a well priced ED30 for sale but unfortunately according to the owner it has no record of any services for the DSG and it's on 96K. He says it drives well with no jerkiness etc... If I bought it the first thing I'd do is Defo get a DSG oil service but if the mechateonics unit caused issues in the future would I'm sure VW wouldn't want anything to do with it.

Should I still consider the car if everything checks out ok or just look elsewhere??

if it drove well I would go for it.

Mine was 10-15k late when it got it first service and has been spot on 30k later.

Can't VW confirm the service history?

The owner himself has told me it's not had a DSG service since new, from what he can see in the Serv book. Would
I just call any vw garage to confirm SH?

Knowing the potential costs involved with replacing mechatronic units, I wouldn't be too confident on 96,000 miles.

Buy mine with full Engine and DSG service history.  :happy2:

Any VW dealer can look up the service history on their system, as long as it was done at a VW. If things did go wrong with the DSG, I doubt VW would contribute any goodwill if the DSG service has not been carried out at the right intervals.

It's a well priced ED, I'll view it and go from there. Seems like an unloved ED30 :-(

When I was searching for GTIs the majority of DSGs I looked at hadn't had the oil change done, so this is noting unusual IMO. The cambelt and engine servicing are the most important.

If it drives well and is priced right then I'd say go for it but get the oil change done ASAP. The reality is you're unlikely to get any goodwill from VW on a car that age/ mileage regardless of what history it has, so I don't think that argument against it is relevant myself.

I bought a mk5 gti in April with dsg and paddle shift. It had one dsg service in the book which was at 89000 miles and it is running perfectly fine. I drive this car hard lol. If you do buy the car get it done straight away
