cam follower???

I was after getting my fuel pump cam follower changed just because of what ive seen on here really, my cars 2004 plate gti on 55,000 is it worth getting changed

my local vw said it would be about 1.7 hours work they would have to remove the high pressure pump and replace the follower between it and the camshaft outlet is this right???

£214.33!!!!!!!

Just bought genuine follower for £31, its not too difficult, see here

The procedure is correct but you could do it yourself and just buy the cam follower itself for £34.50 on eBay.

Bad in that it's more awkward to change than later cars which have one metal and one rubber pipe.

Worth changing for peace of mind and it's cheap. However yours will probably last another 50k on an unmapped car, but it's not an exact science.

Checked mine yesterday, car is standard tune on 60k, barely any wear at all  :smiley:

I changed mine yesterday myself and have the more difficult two metal pipes although I got away with only removing the pipe on the right  :evilgrin: as I couldn't get the other one off. My cam follower was not as bad as I was expecting after seeing some horrific images on the web of failed cam followers. Some of the original coating was still there around the outside. It wasn't that bad but I'm glad it has been changed as now I know it will last another 70k miles.

It cost me 30 quid for the cam follower and about 30 mins labour lol
