GTI Edition 30 Rear Valance; sacrilege?
« on: July 13, 2014, 08:59:26 am »
Hi Folks,

Just registered and introduced myself in the new members section.

One of my first plans with my 2007 silver edition 30 is to get a de-cat turbo back Milltek put on, but am considering also attending to a little pet hate of mine.  As much as I love the aggressive front end of the Edition 30 versus the R32, I despise the rear of the ED30 and prefer the R32 rear.

Noticed on eBay there are some rear valances you can buy to effectively have an R32 look or quad exit look.  Is this is a common modification or is it considered sacrilege on a limited edition car such as the ED30?  Any members had this done and can offer any tips or advice?

Firstly... Welcome to the forum!

Now about that rear bumper... It's your car so only you can decide. However if you decide to get an R32 rear, personally I would go for a genuine one as the replicas are not a great fit or quality.

Lastly I would look into BCS exhausts as there a 76mm system and aren't prone to cracking like the Millteks :happy2:

"Despise" seems a bit strong?  :surprised:

Anywho........

Get a geniune R32 rear end, usually around £200-£300 inc diffuser, reflectors etc. plus those cheap copies are prone to being a sh*t fit too. If you do get a OEM rear then I'd also get the supporting brackets (only a couple of quid from the stealers).......

RH Support 1K6-807-740

As mentioned if your getting a full exhaust system then look at BCS. I have an Eddy with a BCS Powervalve 200 cell Sport cat TBE with normal GTI/Ediroin30 exit tips. I also have a OEM R32 rear end for my Eddy with a BCS R32 rear assembly. Whichever style of rear you go for you can easliy replace/change the exhaust as its only the last 24"s or so that gets changed unlike a Milly which will be a whole Cat Back required.

Oh and BCS do a choice of 3 styles of tips, win win.

Feel free to PM (when you have enough posts) for any more info.  :happy2:

For genuine R32 bumper part numbers, look at my project thread. I've done the swap on a standard GTI and the only thing I'd do different is use a BCS system instead of Miltek.

Your ED30 bumper will sell easily enough to recover cost.

Thanks so much guys.  Perhaps despise was being overly dramatic  :ashamed:

I'll take counsel and look out for an OEM valance, does anyone know the stealer part number on that too?

Never heard of the BCS system so will watch some vids actually, in the VW world it's always Milltek I hear about.  So effectively, theres not much work involved in having the pipes running centrally as per the R32 valance?

See my signature picture? Click the link to my project thread and all the part numbers you'll need are there.

You'll hear about Miltek as its a massive company with PR people, but dig through here and other clubs and you'll see that the PR people are doing their jobs well...

Don't buy replica parts, they never look/feel right.

Mines not an ed30 but done the r32 and quads. Quads are hard to source, I think Milltek still make theirs and APR do a quad but no one else does off the shelf.

As above by a genuine rear and  if you go for a non r32 style exit look at srs tec or osir for a different exhaust trim.

On here its only me and Robin who have quads and he has a custom Milltek on his with ceramic tips. Here's mine with matte carbon trim from osir and miltek quads.

Here's robins thread about his quads and he's sporting r32 rear and with gloss osir carbon

I'm not going to lie, your rear end looks lovely. But I prefer a big, twin centre design.

It's your car at the end of the day, what's gonna make you look back and smile at its ass? If I had the funds I think I would have went with an r32 rear but hey student life

Its just a way of life.
