What coilovers £800
« on: July 14, 2014, 03:42:05 pm »
Right I've decided I want these fk's off the car so I'm looking at a new setup, I've got roughly £800 to spend.
I've been having a good search on here but there's nothing deciding for me.

We'll start with I live in north wales, the roads are fantastic and I drive them constantly so want something that will hold on but not break my back lol
The silverline X was good at this, it's just the quality that's letting them down.

Also they need to do trackways, A good few a year.

I've been looking at these

BC RACING AND BILLIES B14's

So is there any others I should put in the mix or is there a clear choice between the two above?

I'm getting the Bilstein B14 coilovers fitted this weekend so I can let you know how they get on if you like?

I have KW V1's and they're a great balance, stiff enough to vastly improve handling but keeping about 90% of the comfort (people can't believe the suspension isn't standard). A friend changed from the Bilstien B12's to the KW's and said they were much better (but the B12's were fairly old). I would definitely consider them.

ST Suspension is rebranded KW stuff, just with less shinybits and warranty I think, so save a few quid more?

Yes would be great if u could let me know on the B14's. There just a name I trust and have had great experience with in the past.

I did look into the ST, and v1 But nothing really caught my attention with them

AmD Tuning are offering free fitting with all Bilstein kits, although it did cost £100 more than buying the kit from Awesome GTI (so takes the total for the kit fitted to £950). I am also replacing the top mounts with an ECS Tuning kit (TT/RS3 from mounts, stock OEM rear resfresh) so it's gone about £1100 all in, but should be worth it.

I'll have to wait a few week to let the suspension bed in, different weathers to pass through and chances to get out and drive before I report on them. May even write a review up...

Inspiring me with confidence in my choice. Sadly my plans have been delayed by a week due to parts not arriving from the USA... More on that later!

I'm getting the coilovers supplied and fitted by AmD Tuning in Essex, but waiting on a top mount kit from ECS Tuning (via PSI Tuning) to turn up. Sadly it won't arrive till Monday so had to re book my car for next Saturday.

Just to finish the thread off, this is how I've ended up.

Bilstein B14s, they ride lovely and am very pleased with the setup.
