Biano44 - Please send me a pm ref wheels as I cannot post in your listing. Sorry to hijack thread.

Thanks everyone.

As I said, I have yet to buy (let alone view the car as it is in England and I am in Northern Ireland). Going across to buy in a week's time and I secured the car with a £200 deposit (as it was the exact spec I was looking for). If it is only a £600 retrofit, then I will still buy the car.

I will call when the dealer is open again tomorrow and ask for the VIN to check with VW and ask how they didn't know it didn't have xenon lights. I only noticed it this morning when looking a the pictures.

Good point about them being replaced by a previous owner - questions shall be asked!

Cheers for the advice!

Depends who's retrofitting the Xenons, and don't forget the cost of the headlights, control module, loom and switch, all add up and then there's the charge of fitting. Enquire in your area as to what the cost could be. Also factor in whether you want auto levellers and headlamp washers which will then take it to OEM Spec  :happy2:
It's a big job fitting these unless your really savvy otherwise it will cost £'s

Here's how your front should look

I'm sure I recognise those lights..... :drinking:

Definitely halogen (standard) headlights.. unless someone has fitted an HID kit  :ashamed: otherwise, the dealer is talking out his ar$e  :booty:

The halogen lights are actually pretty decent, with a set of uprated bulbs in there (Philips x-treme or Ring Xenon max) you'll not miss xenons too much!

Cheers guys.

Going to England tomorrow.

The trader took the Golf to VW at my request and they confirmed there was no winter pack and that the lights are standard halogen bulbs. He admitted his mistake and I'm happy.

I was more annoyed/hesitant that the trader was perhaps ignorant and wouldn't believe me. The xenons would be nice but not a deal breaker - getting the car for a good price (in comparison to Northern Ireland) and it's got everything else I wanted.

Hoping to join the GTI club this time tomorrow :happy2:

Hi and just noticed your post.

Those are not xenons lights that are fitted to that car and nor does it have the head light washers.
I'm in N.Ireland myself but like you went over to England to buy the GTI I have about 4 years ago.
At the time I wasn't that bothered about xenons or not but that car had the other extras I was after and was low milage with one owner and came with 12 month warranty.
Either get the price reduced or your deposit back and look around some more, some good ones come up on this forum.

The trader advertising my old car states in the ad that it has an RCD500 (it's an RCD300), an iPod connection (true, but it doesn't work!) and Omanyt alloys (it has Zolders).

Got the GTI home this afternoon (from Blackburn to Belfast)!

Few small scrapes on it, but nothing a nice polish won't get out.

Drove really well on the way up to Stranraer and I loved it.

MFSW and Dual Climate Control as well, which the trader didn't list. Pleasantly surprised!

Few questions:

Which red paint to use on rear calipers? They have shed their paint and are grey.

There is an electrical-like whine/noise in the cabin at idle and rises with the revs in the engine. I'll get a youtube up later to demonstrate. Any ideas? Only notices it on my way home.

One on the right...

Whine starts with engine start and will continue once engine is off for around 45 secs.

Here's a short video showing the noise after engine is turned off. It's the small part directly under the front of the grey engine cover I think.

Throttle body.

Hammerite Red Smooth works well, much easier to get a good finish than with the very thin caliper paint that takes 4 million coats.

They won't have shed the original paint, they'll have seized at some point and been replaced by someone like Kwik Fit...
