Does this car have standard headlights or xenons?

Hi,

I've just put a deposit down on this 2007 (07) GTI. The advert stated:

It comes with extras including the Luxury and Winter Pack,which include folding electric mirrors,auto xenon headlights/wipers,Full Heated Black GTI Leather Seats,premium sound system with 6 cd changer in centre armrest,FVWSH with all receipts/invoices,Factory SAT NAV with on dash directions/postcode input,Monza Alloys with excellent tyres all round,excellent on fuel,5 door so practical as well as sporty,electric windows and electric folding mirrors,6 speed manual gearbox with very smooth gear change,lovely and fun to drive.

After looking at the lights in more detail I cannot see any xenons... nor do I see the headlight washer split in the section below the lights. Is the dealer wrong or am I wrong?



Hoping to drive the price down a bit more if I am right!

The Winter pack added headlight washers anyway, so it'll have them - but unless the seller doesn't know a headlight from his a$$, it hasn't got Xenon headlights based on that description mate.

I retrofitted mine for around £600 - it was worth it, utterly and totally Ross

* BTW can't see the headlight washer slits in the front bumper, check that it's even got the winter pack, unless it's a bad pic?

Indeed, I also thought as there are no headlight washer slits that it won't have the headlight washers.

It has leather seats - I don't think there is anything else in the winter pack!

If you ring VW customer services, they should be able to tell you which options were added to the car when it was new.  Alternatively have a look at the codes on the inside first page of the service booklet (also should be a sticker in the boot under the carpet).

The Winter Pack should include heater washer jets and heated seats.  You've got the controls for heated seats so maybe you have the Winter Pack but no Xenons.

Always a chance the previous owner or someone in possession of the car somewhere along the line pilfered the Xenons for other uses, if it ever had them....

The VW check will reveal all.

As I said, I have yet to buy (let alone view the car as it is in England and I am in Northern Ireland). Going across to buy in a week's time and I secured the car with a £200 deposit (as it was the exact spec I was looking for). If it is only a £600 retrofit, then I will still buy the car.

I will call when the dealer is open again tomorrow and ask for the VIN to check with VW and ask how they didn't know it didn't have xenon lights. I only noticed it this morning when looking a the pictures.

Good point about them being replaced by a previous owner - questions shall be asked!

Could be the leather is a retrim or retrofit and that it doesn't have either pack! Had that on my old Golf. When I checked out all the 3 digit codes, one of them came up cloth seat facings.

Depends who's retrofitting the Xenons, and don't forget the cost of the headlights, control module, loom and switch, all add up and then there's the charge of fitting. Enquire in your area as to what the cost could be. Also factor in whether you want auto levellers and headlamp washers which will then take it to OEM Spec  
It's a big job fitting these unless your really savvy otherwise it will cost £'s

I would only be interested in the xenons themselves - autoleveling and washers aren't needed.

I can fit anything myself as I am savvy  so would just need all the wiring and the headlights.

Can't wait to get that VIN now

After asking the dealer, he is adamant that there are indeed xenons on it.

As for the xenon lights, had them looked at and can confirm they are the standard GTI xenon headlight. There are two types, one are bi xenons and then normal xenons. This car has normal ones that light up when you unlock the doors at night.

I phoned Volkswagen and was told yes luxury pack, but no winter pack. Leather seats were an optimal extra.

I know from what you guys are saying and that it is obvious from the photos, but what is he talking about "normal xenons"?

Hes talking out of his arse basically. My old halogens lit up at night when i unlocked my car. Called "coming home" lights, not xenons

It's probably got "xenon-look" bulbs in if anything at all, as they are absolutely 100% halogen headlights. I wonder who he had look at it. I'd personally avoid anyone providing such misinformation.
