18" MONZA refurbishment

So i'm looking at getting mine refurbished...popped along to Pristine on Friday...

They are keen to paint them silver (due to known issues with corrosion), and re-paint the inserts..so they look original diamond cut, but are actually painted all over..

Has anyone else seen them done this way before..? I'm not totally convinced...i can understand the fact they won't corrode again but the 18" Monza is all about the daimong cut finish isn't it...?

If they look the same as diamond cut but without the risk of whiteworm, id take it.

hmm know what your saying mate, but tbh they didn't sparkle as much, but probably what you'd expect for silver paint...but the whiteworm is a pain, and i could be getting them refurbed again in 6 months time....tricky one..!!

If price isn't an issue I'd get them diamond cut again because it will be a long long time before there's any sign of white worm setting in again!

Diamond cut all the way for me!

We have the exact same problem with our 18" alloys and to be honest when we get them refurbed we are not going to get them diamond cut again, purely because of the white worming issue.

We also had diamond cut alloys on our Jeep and when we got those refurbed we decided to go for the painted option instead to avoid white worm again. I must say I was a little bit skeptical before the work was carried out but when the Jeep came back the wheels looked amazing. Obviously not quite as shiny & bright as you would expect from the diamond cut procedure but not that far of it. Ask the wheel repairers if they have any pictures they can show you. Also if I can find any old photos of the Jeep wheels i'll stick them up for you. Go for it you wont be disappointed and you also wont have any more white worm.  :happy2:

Set of 4 painted around £200, set of 4 diamond cut around £400

Diamond cut all the way for me!

Price wise it was about £25 dearer to get them painted, mainly because of the work involved in masking up etc..

I did actually see some painted on the owners wife's car, and tbh they were dirty, but didn't really do it for me...
They had one a painted one on the wall, but its really hard to imagine them on the car all clean etc...but to get them diamond cut again, and for them to whiteworm again in 6months time will be hard to take....especially on the wallet..!

Mine been fine for 3 years Dazza.  Don't use mine in winter though and I always make sure the have a few coats of poorboys wheel sealant on them.  Done at A1 in Wolverhampton.  Been fine so far  :happy2:

hmm, guess it depends on the core wheel condition...luck of the draw mate....

not sure what to do yet..its going to be expensive what ever happens as i also need a set of tyres...

I had the same dilemma as you a while ago, i liked my diamond cut,  but didn't want whiteworm back again. I decided to just get something completely different rather than painted to imitate diamond cut. I went with a custom smoked chrome powdercoat and I'm so glad I did! I thought I would miss the diamond cut look, but I actually prefer the new look. Nearly two years on and I'm still happy with my decision. Maybe you should consider some different options as well.

Wow they look cool...I'm on the case with the guy who does my paint work... Also now wondering about chrome paint, instead of diamond cut...

Would love to get mine diamond cut again But its inevitable the white worm will come back at some stage.
Had some audi tt comps done a few years back by the wheel specialist powder coated chrome, very similar to the original finish & didnt have to worry about white worm etc



Chrome paint/powder coat (where the wheel is diamond cut) is an option then i guess, will look similar and last a lot longer...

labour is more, due to masking up etc, but saves in the long term with multiple diamond cut refurbs i guess...

Had my Monza 2's refurbished at A1 Wheels in Bilston, after 6 months 2 of them have corroded again and now have more white worm than when i originally took them in.
