outer cv boot
« on: July 21, 2014, 01:05:18 pm »
Noticed mine is split, the metal clip on the shaft has cut into it
Do we have a guide? Im interested in how the shaft to the joint splits?
Thanks

I changed my n/s outer boot about a year ago. Couldn't find any guides anywhere but fairly straight forward and have done one before on a 8L S3. Removed the whole shaft for easier working.

As for the tool above I've only seen that used for Renault joints but may be someone tried them on VW?

All good info thanks.
I just need to know how the joint comes off the shaft. I'm not intending to take shaft from car.
Has anybody got a picture of the clip or how its dissengaged to release joint off shaft?
Thanks

I've used one of the CV cones to aid putting on, so the more primitive version of the claw like hand in the photo a few posts up. It does work but it can be awkward to get sufficient leverage when doing it in situ and as they always recommend. Lubrication, lubrication, lubrication..
