New here from Essex
« on: July 21, 2014, 02:55:39 pm »
Hi all,

Technically i guess i shouldn't be allowed here as i don't own a GTi i have however just bought a 57 plate GT 170

So a lot of the bits i am looking to buy are from MK5 GTi's

No proper pics as yet as i dont pick it up until Saturday but here is 2 i took at the dealers

57 plate with 46k on the clock parking sensors and a few other bits but not a lot of extras but ideal for the 1500 miles i do a month to work and back !

I was going to get a 5 door but couldnt find one with mileage as low as this one, my mum actually drives a 5 door steel grey ED30 ha ha i might swap she wont notice lol

What have you done to yours ? If anything ?

I am collecting it Saturday and i think first after a clay-bar and clean up (to get it to my standards) i may take off the Golf and TDi badges off of the rear and fit some black VW badges to the front and rear as a cheap and subtle mod

Thanks, its been a while since i have been in a VW, i've already had 3 MK4's (inc a 25th Anni) and i get to use the ED30 my mum drives a lot.

Although as ive been out of them for a while i havent got a clue where to start, what do people replace the head unit with ? I guess like a Pioneer AVIC unit or an aftermarket Sat Nav replica ? Any help would be appreciated - what do you have ?

Depends on your budget, whether you want sat nav, OEM or not.
A lot of people have replaced the rcd300 with rcd510 or rns510 (with nav). When upgrading to 3rd gen vw headunits in pre 07 cars ,you might get battery drain, which can be overcome with a newer canbus as well. With 57plate you might be lucky.
Some guys are also running cheaper Chinese copies with no canbus issues,  and some good feedback.
Search through the audio/satnav section.

Thats great Paul thanks for the quick reply, not worried about Sat Nav as i am going to get Traffic Master installed (no screen - just voice guidance) but its good as you talk to a real person and with real time traffic updates etc i wouldnt be without it now.

So it will just be for better sound and ipod connectivity and mp3 etc

i already have a parrot bluetooth in the car but as i have 2 phones it could be good to have a second kit in the unit so both can be connected at the same time (1 work and 1 personal - i am not a drug dealer lol)

I guess between £200 and £300 ?
