STOLEN - 2012 POLO GTI - LM12 XUV
« on: July 21, 2014, 04:21:56 pm »
One of my mates cars....

********************

Hi all,

My 2012 Polo GTI DSG was stolen on Friday 12th July. This was a scam so the thieves have both keys and logbook!

The car has triggered ANPR in Sittingbourne and Minster on Sea in Kent on Wednesday the 16th.

The police believe it is on the same plates and it's being kept around the Minster on Sea area

If you have ANY information on the car or its where about, even if you've seen it driving past you please contact me!

This is not covered by my insurance due to the car being obtained through fraud. I need to get this car back I have a baby on the way in a month!!

Yikes. So basically pitched up as a private seller and then gave a fraudulent banker's draft. That's scary.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Pitched up having posed as a car dealer. This is after multiple comms. And my mate is pretty switched on, has bought and sold about 5/6 cars in the time ive known him.

Just had a google on banker's drafts:
- lots of stolen ones in circulation
- you can ring the branch that issued to verify, or you can go to the bank and cash it in
- either way, the bank can still say it's fraudulent later down the line and you're out of pocket
- BD is no better than a cheque.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Gutted for him Hope they catch the ********  , strange how they went to all the trouble of a fake bankers draft then cruse about with the original plate on waiting to be spotted I think they've already sold it on to another poor punter and he's now lost his cash as well

So perhaps when some of us have our Lakeside meet next week, we could take a little cruise into Kent and go on a man hunt... :fighting:

First of all I'm sorry to hear about this - I hope your friend gets it back.

Secondly, I thought this type of fraud was fairly common knowledge but from some of the responses I guess not? I remember seeing a TV show where someone had explained that this had happened to him. I saw that show when I was still in 6th form, and I'm 28 this year. If I were going to sell a car I wouldn't hand the car over until the money is in my hand or cleared in my account.

Fake Bankers Drafts to purchase cars were about when i joined the Police in 1983 !

No person would know that they are fakes as they are exactly the same as the original , easier to fake than any banknote too .

Very sad to see this type of thing still goes on .

Always wait for cleared funds to hit your bank account before parting with your car .

One issue that does occur quite alot is a cheque stolen from the back of a cheque book , not reported as stolen as not noticed as missing . Cheque owner only finds out when large cheque hits their account , happens with alot of business account cheque books.

The Polo on this thread is likely to turn up as it was done for profit and not their new daily . The buyer of it is likely to have some legal entitlement to the car  too , so then probably a Police Property Act magistrates hearing where the likely outcome is a split of the value of the car . So both victims of fraud lose out . Either victim will have to give the other half the value of the car to keep it . So both could end up with a car that cost them 150% ish of its value .

No news, apart from the police being utterly useless from the sounds of it.
