The most I've had is 35mpg but my island is 9x5 miles and top speed of 40mph lol

Hope this doesn't sound like a silly question but does a remap help?

Its a shame that you don't like this sort of thread, but others do as it helps them determine whether their pride and joy is operating in optimum condition for a given driving style.
There are ways of avoiding these threads though and the best and simplest is... dont read them

Standard GTI:
Around 350 to possibly 500  miles per full tank. Don't keep an eye on my consumption really as i feel i'd lose some enjoyment out of driving the car if i was constantly watching my MPG.
I mostly do town driving then on any 60/70 roads i tend to give it a short but quick push up to speed limit then knock it into 6th again. So mixed modes of driving. Im quite happy with the amount of mpg i get considering its a 2L turbo and my old 1.6 FSI didn't do much better in terms of milage per tank.

Also gone from 1.6fsi to gti and barely notice any difference on miles to a tank (290-330 for the 1.6 and 260-300 for the gti ) so I'm fairly happy. The fuel does disappear in a shorter time recent with it being such nice weather for a spirited drive ;)

Slightly different car, I know - but I'd be disappointed if I don't get 400mi from a tank. I mostly drive on the motorway though, but at sensible outer lane speeds.

Why by a GTi and obsess over mileage? You
Should be enjoying the car, not driving with one eye on the trip.

alright calm down stirling moss.

Because it's sometimes fun to eek out MPG??

If I am sat on a motorway for 8 hours why go flat out and get a speeding ticket and whatever when I can just sit at 70mph on cruise control with the ipod.

you should be enjoying the car in whatever way you gain enjoyment from it.

I average 360 - 420 on a tank, really does depend what type of driving that involves for sure. Most i've had was 450ish when driving as smooth as possible.

Personally always quite enjoyed looking at the MPG and look to improve it, helps make you a better driver on public roads i'd say too, anticipating more etc.

Interesting also how the range of these things don't really change over the years as I was regularly getting north of 400 from a tank in my mk2 Golf GTI 8v and mk3 Golf GTI 16v.

I've noticed exactly the same over the last week! Anyway my fuel costs are fixed as I only put in about £20 a time
