VWR Intake Install - Progress slows

I've got a VWR intake in my ed30 and can't see any issues. The garage that did it for the PO dodged it a little with cable ties and moving a few of the pipes but it was nothing that a 10 min fix over the weekend couldn't sort out.

Mine also whistles when on the throttle, just assumed it was a trait of the ko4

@Pudding not much movement - I'm gonna have a go at trying to move a few bits around on the weekend and see if I have any joy.

So installed mine at the weekend and had tye same issue with the coolant pipi in the way. Also the grille attachment for mine was for an audi so made it more complicated.
 
Basically I remove all 4 pipes off the coolant t piece and then reposition so the nozzle was more down to the right but not by much. Fitted hoses back on and then the intake sat just above it. It is slightly touch the fat pipe coming from the radiator but not putting pressure on and intake quite solid so does not move much.

I love the sound of it, very quiet but can hear slightly when boosting it. When have more time I am going to look at trying to fully reposition the coolant t piece as ideally still do not want it sitting under the intake.

I dont get a whistling at all so must be something loose I can only think of

That would be perfect mate - did you just loosen it up and move the pipes?
I still haven't got round to moving it - worried I'll snap it again!

I have no whistling on mine when flooring it either - sounds spot on.

Basically I removed the clamps and twisted the pipes off, need to be careful with the thin pipe that goes down by the DV as it spits coolant out so just loosen the pip to twist rather than removing.

Here it is on mine, as you can see not ideal as pipe for the nozzle I have tucked behind another pipe. Also the nozzle is a bit bent down enough so does not touch the intake but ideally I want to try and relocate it. I have the Audi grille attachment on mine but the way I have fitted it, it is solid and does not move.

Sadly, I now seem to have this problem. Very frustrating as I love the VWR intake look and subtle sounds.

Seems to have been rubbing laterally, which has hit the T-piece, and it is now weeping a bit. I think there may have been vertical movement too, which isn't great as I think the intake has put stress on some of the crappy hose clips VW use, which may have eaten into the hoses below the filter housing.

So new coolant flange on order, plus hoses - car booked in with a different VW specialist to who fitted it - will be interesting to see what they make of the kit and the fitting. I love the intake, but I don't want it if it brings this hassle every 10 months...

I have some Forge coolant hoses I never fitted - I will take them too - maybe they are tougher than the OEM rubber ones, and can be cut down to give some headroom to the filter box...

Only other thing I can think of is an additional shim to lift the cradle bracket that attaches to the battery tray to lift the inlet a little more.

Hope it can be solved somehow, as I don't want a Revo or Maxogen filter - I wanted subtle!

So, mine is sorted. Some shims on the mounting bracket, plus a new hose & all is good.

The filter is no longer resting on coolant hoses - it is still snug, but not pressing on things. I should have checked when it was fitted, but I didn't expect to need to!

The problem with that video.....

Standard car!

No real talk of the effect it has on the car that is losing efficiency when running on the limit or outside of the turbo compressor map

But no one has a compressor map for the OEM turbos to be able to compare the pressure ratio vs pressure drop through the OEM airbox.

With standard sized components, the effects of a CAI will still be marginal.   When you start throwing hybrids and BTs onto the engine with 3" turbo backs, then of course the air intake requirements need to be reevaluated.

Hi shoaybmakda, hi Pudding - yes, that's right - looks to be 3 or 4 washers that the garage fitted.

That's a good idea.  A more flexible coupling would allow the canister to kick up more and clear the hoses/N80 pipe etc.  A short, straight piece of silicon has virtually no flex.

Agreed - I'm no longer worried about the vertical movement as the filter housing is no longer resting on anything. It was moved slightly to the passenger side with the front snorkel too, so it doesn't rub on the N80 pipe at all.
Have driven the car enthusiastically the past couple of days in terms of a few rips from lights, a few hard corners, hard acceleration in gear on the motorway. Tomorrow I will be looking to see how much movement there has been in the kit over the last week.

It is really only the coolant t-piece that worries me now, as there doesn't seem much of a solution to stop the filter butting up against this part. Maybe the aluminium t-piece I posted a while back would help, but it's money after money on a kit I thought was premium...
