Highline Clocks Upgrade - NEED HELP

Hi guys,

I've come across some highline clocks for £80, they are out of a 2007 vehicle. My car is a 2005 mk5 golf gti.
I came across this guide when searching up on how to switch over from midline: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=201776.0

Following that guide, doing the coding as showed, will the clocks work in my car?

Looking at that guide it seems like a relatively process, but I've also read that it can be a nightmare to code and you need a special type of vag com cable to code it?!

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What part number does the clocks have on your current ones and what mum ever does the new one have?

Some you can swap and other you need a different piece of software for the immo data etc which eddie-NL and kali can do

I will have to check my current ones, the seller isn't replying to me now so can't get hold of the part number..

So are you saying that some are more straight forward than others, but they will all work with any model, just may need a bit more done to them which eddie can sort out?

As long as its a 970, 971 or 972 ending part number, following the guide will work. I used the same guide when I did mine the first time and was a great help.

Coming out of an 07 they'll be at least x73 or maybe x74 clocks so you will need a genuine Commander cable to program the highline cluster.

Ok thanks a lot, the seller isn't replying so I'll post a wanted add on here and make sure to get a set ending in 970, 971 or 972.

Have you got a multi function steering wheel? If so post up the pics of the buttons as they differ.

Older style you want x70/71, newer style x72/73/74.
If no MFSW I'd still only go for x72 or newer

I don't have a MFSW unfortunately. Why would you only go for 972 and not 970 or 971?

They rely on different buttons & the use of the MFA stalk.

If you ever planned for MFSW then aim for the newer versions, in my opinion.

Ah I see. If I ever bothered to upgrade, it would be to a mk6 MFSW, but I doubt I will as it's a really pricey upgrade! Will the old ones still work with the MFSW if I did ever upgrade?

I've found a new seller for the clocks, and the part number is: 1K6920 972D

If for some reason I mess up and can't get them working, will my current clocks be plug and play to get working again? Hopefully it will be nice and straight forward though

972 clocks are ideal, your current ones can go back in assuming you keep the same keys (they're linked up).

972s normally go between 100 and 150 because they are easier to program.  Cheapest I found 971 clocks was 40quid once.  Didnt think the seller knew what they were worth.

You can plug your old clocks back in and should work ad long as you don't overwrite it with another immobiliser data.

Awesome thanks a lot! He's just got back to me with £120, looks like I've got myself a nice little upgrade. Hopefully he can fit them for me too for a little extra
