BSH Stage 1
« on: October 26, 2009, 08:39:09 am »
I notice with the stage 1 fix that the blanking plate simply blocks off all exit ports on the block.. i take it then the oil is forced back into the system..

1st is this good for the car?
2nd if its a viable fix how come the car never came like this from factory?

It doesnt block off all ports (not on the block though). It simply takes the PCV out the equation, routing the oil destined for it back into the top of the head. There is still a vent for the oil that is routed back to the sump.  :happy2:

....Broadly speaking, the oem method is a way to satisfy regulations which the car manufacturer (VW/VAG) is subjected to regarding emissions.

To me it seems like a clear case of screw the potential harm to the longevity of the engine components, a minutely tiny reduction of emissions will help our rating and sell more cars etc etc.

AFAIK, if you fit a race catch can which vents to the atmosphere, your car will fail MOT.

Thanks for the reply mate.. but by routing this oil back into the head, will it cause any damage etc... otherwise why would vw use this kind of method & not just create a system which removes the pcv..

Just trying to get my head round it

just a quick thought, if this a fault with the engine then i don't want to sound daft but is there any data in the uk saying there is a problem with the engine and if so vw uk need to made aware of this and all cars with this engine need to have this sorted under warranty as its an engine design with a fault

The bean counters at VW most likely know that by the time most owners start having big issues with the valve build up problem, the car should be out of warranty.

Hello, take a look at this posting in the help and trouble shooting forum. I made a detail post explaining the different systems we offer as well as some more detailed look into the factory design. Please feel free to email us if you have any questions.
