LED interior lights issues.
« on: April 16, 2014, 12:54:07 pm »
Hi All,

I ordered from Matt and fitted a set of LED bulbs into my golf this morning.  Number plate ones work spot on, as do the footwell ones.

However none of the overhead one work whether the car is started or off, doors open or closed and the actual buttons pressed or not pressed.  Does this mean I've managed to blow a fuse somewhere along the line or am I being a complete doughnut and they wont come on because its daytime or because I've been messing about with the doors open for a while.

If it helps the first bulb I installed (passenger side vanity light) came on briefly although went out again and now none will come on.

If I have blown a fuse any knowledge on which one it is and how to access it/ replace it would very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Have you flipped them round to reverse the polarity?

Also check the little things you screw out to make sure that they have made an electrical contact (this will make sense when you see it)

I had to play around a bit when i changed mine but they eventually worked.

I haven't checked the polarity although I'd have thought that I'd have seen at least some of them light up if that was the issue, my issue is that none are on.

I found the correct fuse and it has blown.

Of course (sods law) its the one fuse I don't have  :sad1:  off to trawl around the garages in town to find one...

Turns out we were both right.

I replaced the fuse and about half of them came on.  I then swapped them round (carefully making sure they were off and the fuse removed haha) and now they all work.

Thanks for your help, I didn't think about the polarity when I first fitted them.

Good stuff.

Its something I read on here somewhere and had to remember to check when I had a couple not come on too. I must have been lucky that my fuse didn't go pop!

Bit of an old thread but saves starting a new one for a similar issue.

I blew a fuse changing mine, replaced it today and the map lights front and rear work now. My sun visor lights on both sides don't tho, do they run on the same fuse does anyone know?

They did flick on and off when I installed them but now nothing.

I had no problems with mine, might be daft question but have you tried the old bulbs?
Have a look through the fuse box might be on a different one. Mine aren't on the same as the map lights.

***We have recently found out that some MK5's have an extra bulb in the front map light.

We think this could be just certain years of the TDI models that have 3 bulbs instead of 2, but please check.

If so you MUST inform Matt on your email, and order 1 extra 36mm Festoon LED.

Big thanks to Dodds-GTtdi for the info***

Followed this guide for the install.
