rusty wings
« on: July 23, 2014, 02:56:26 pm »
So today in took my gti to the local dealer about the rust coming through on the wings. The Chao took photos etc and will let me know the verdict. He reckons there shouldn't be a problem for them to carry out the work.  I'll let you all know the outcome. Plus they're giving me a courtesy car for a week if all goes well  :driver:

Over the past 2 years I've had the front wings both rust, drivers side sill, around the rear boot badge and now the back wing's are going.

With the front wings I had to make 30% contribution. The sill and boot badge was split 50:50 between me and vw. I've been offered 50:50 split again for the rear wings but have refused.

Don't know what I'm doing wrong as I've taken the complaint to vwuk and they still refuse to move on their position.

Sorry to say but I think this is the final straw in my vw ownership.

Had mine done a few months ago, they offered 75% to start then a few days later after I rang customer services they paid the full amount as there policy changed, so should get it all payed, just ring up customer service.

Tried customer service and they wouldn't shift. Said that we'd not had the car serviced with vw so there was no loyalty. Seriously can't be doing with the argument again this time around.

The guy that checked my car over said the policy has changed and they pay the full 100%. I'm not holding my breath over it, but he seemed confident that all would be ok. As I said,  I'll let you all know how I get on

My wings are being done for the second time soon FOC,  :sad1: apparently the process VW recommended to start with was flawed and the rust comes back according to my VW paint man.

Ive lost count how many threads ive read on this subject, the pattern of results on this and the other vw websites that I visit all point to many variables as to why some customers are treaded differently to others. Whether I agree or disagree with the reasoning as to why one customer is treated differently to another is subjective, and mostly always in VW's favour it seems.
Some people get 100% success after months of hard work, some get 100% after just one visit, and im very pleased for them......however many many more have and continue to be for the better term "fobbed off" with excuse after excuse from one or more dealerships and VW themselves as to why our cars are not 100% put back to a reasonable condition at 100% cost to them....or even anything reasonably close.
I cannot and wont speak for all on here, but myself has had many many years of proud VW ownership without much cause for concern until now. Regrettably i wont be replacing my Gti with another VW now or any time in the distant future because of the ignorance and lack of empathy from them. Sad times......  :sad1:

Yeah definitely call them mate. They told me I'd hear something within 2 weeks. So far they've been very helpful to be honest

I had both front wings, drivers sill and tailgate around the badge all sorted f.o.c by my local dealership. My advice would be to try another VW dealership as you are not under any obligation to take them up on the quote if you don't agree with it after all. To be fair it did take roughly 3-4 weeks for them to confirm it was all ok for them to carry out the work but they where helpful throughout and I got a courtesy car for 2 weeks whilst it was in with them.
