Tyres - Best Overall?

With regard to a stock mk5 GTI, what are the best tyres overall out there?

There seems to be a lot of mixed reviews from the well known brands on the forum. Some people might get 12,000 miles when others only get 6,000.

Can anybody from personal experience recommend a good set of tyres?

I wanted to get Pirelli P Zero but reviews seem to have steered (Get it?) me away.

There's been loads of threads about this, Goodyear Eagle F1's are the best all rounder IMO.

Goodyear Assy 2s - great tyre wet and dry - but I'm convinced mine are getting noisier as they get older.
About half worn now.
Anyone else noticed this?

And no its not wheel bearings or drive shafts etc

I've had a couple of sets and driven a few cars with them on ranging from nearly dead to brand new and havn't really noticed any change in the noise.

Michelin pilot sport 3 is the best all rounder tyre for the mkv golf gti I find, good dry weather and wet weather grip , nice stiff side wall , and I don't find them to noisy

The Goodyear eagle F1 ASS 2's have decent all weather grip but even in XL I find the side walls are way to soft , which doesn't suit my driving style at all , I know there cheaper than Michelin PS3's but there not as good as them ...

I can relate to the Assy 2's getting noisier as they wear. I think I have about 6k miles on mine now and I remember them being exceptionally quiet when new or newish. That said, I think all tyres will get more or less noisier when they wear down. Also one of my rear wheel bearings has given up and just started making an annoying grinding noise. 

As for the Assy 2's, they are a good all-rounder as said but they are a little soft in feel for what I think is appropriate for a car like the GTI. My previous Continental CSC3's felt more solid and better suited to the GTI all in all. Personally, I won't be buying another set of the Assy 2's. I am either going back to Continentals or trying out Michelin PS3's for my next set of tyres.

I have run P ZEROS on mine for 40k miles and only on the second set albeit at the end of their life now. that is with the majority of my mileage on the motorway with a fairly gentle right foot. very good all round performance tyre in my eyes and no wheel spin above second gear with a mapped Pirelli GTi

Just what I wanted to hear. I have my heart set on them but I was told by my tyre fitters that another buyer only got 10K miles... Must have been drifting!

I have a fairly gentle right foot most of the time as I am commuting in the car and therefore never in a rush else running the young family around at the weekend and definitely drive carefully on those occasions. They will wear quicker than a lot of tyres as they are a fairly soft compound but other users are just as happy with Michelin and Goodyear and I would not doubt those tyres or opinions either

Drive it hard and you will only see 10k miles as you would with most tyres

I rate the Pilot Sport 3 and Asymetric 2 equally so take the ones that are available cheapest at the time - Goodyears tend to be cheaper.
A cheaper alternative - although they have rocketed in price lately are the Falken FK452's. A very good all round tyre that I've used on many cars from the family car (Audi A4, Honda Accord and others) to the weekend toy (360BHP newage Impreza, 400BHP Classic Impreza, 360BHP 2010 Leon Cupra R).

Trying my 1st PS3 , over Bridgetsones, too early to tell differences.
Don't forget you 18" boys can also choose pilot super sport, softer on the outer edges for more corner grip, oh and sexier design

What tread does the supersport come with new? Only 6mm or so I believe?
